Artist Statement

Art is an intellectual, automatic process involving the artist entire being. Irrevocable commitment to any one point of perspective is creative suicide and closes the mind to any new vision of the word. Through the stuffy of science I approach art with a problem solving mentality: observation, analysis and formulation of hypothesis. Mathematics has given me the experience of pure though and music and means of expressing it.

My work in construction has given me an appreciation of a variety of materials and methods of execution. Objects I construct from tar latex, cement, wax, and steel, along with traditional art materials are bound to the earth by gravity, subject to the same laws that govern the cosmos. One can feel the weight, experience the scale and physicality, sense the inertia and external force required to overcome it.

Like nature, art is a process and I am a participant drawing on intuition and flowing rhythms and the acceptance of change allowing the process to continue. If I refrain from imposing expectations on nature to be profound, relevant, or analytical, I might not have those exportations of art. Neither nature nor the artist makes special objects rather the product is an effect that has survived its cause.
