Artist Statement:
My art comes from community. The subjects are lost souls.
These are people that are living on the street. Often I come across
individuals who are very colorful and I sketch them. I draw people who are so
oblivious to the fact that I am making studies of them. When I paint
and draw I do not plan, I just sketch and it out comes. I want my images
to be vibrant. I want my figures to speak to the audience that it
attracts. I want my art to be an analog with that of the insane.
My drawings are geared toward the images I come across every day. I
work at a mental hospital. This has greatly influenced my work, the issues
that I address are that of addiction and mental health when creating
my works , I seek to produce an awareness of these issues I do this by
creating images which I title “haunting images”. These are a series
of masked figures who are the subjects within my body of works in
producing these works, I hope to peak an interest in those haunting images
and have my audience search for what they may represent.
I am abstract artist who major medium is oils. However, I do gather
other supplies from my environment, thrift stores and the trash. By
combing all these elements, it actually leaves the viewer wandering, hmmm,
“what medium was used”?
