No matter how you print, fold, layer or carve it, paper is often the primary media to which an artist applies their talent. This simple material allows for diverse and unique applications in this group show of over 25 participants. Our established cadre of artists forms the basis for this exhibition and includes: Henry Bermudez, Elizabeth Bisbing, Jim Brossy, Peter Gourfain, Frank Hyder, Florence Putterman, Alex Queral, and Caleb Weintraub.

Also participating are Virginia Batson, F. Lennox Campello, Aubrie Costello, Denise Dmochowski, Michael Edwards, Erin Endicott, Alexis Granwell, Talia Greene, Brooke Holloway, Itsuki Ogihara, Mia Rosenthal, Krista Rothwell, Gregory Farrar Scott, Heather Sundquist and others. Each presents work on and of paper that expands one’s traditional perception of the material.

Often more delicate and intimate in nature, these prints, drawings, mixed media and sculptures demonstrate artistic skill and quirky innovations. Through the mark of the pen, pencil or brush on the page or the cutting, layering and folding, each artist presents a different perspective through his or her interpretation of this common element. From miniatures to enveloping environments, united by the most basic material, “Paper” is a chance to introduce new artists into the Projects Gallery oeuvre while highlighting a material theme within our artist stable.

Paper” at Projects Gallery seeks to engage the audience in both the simplicity and the complexity, the universality and the uniqueness and even the humor of paper in the hands of these multi-faceted artists. The broad range of styles, scales, and techniques provide something for everyone in this charming and approachable show.

“Paper” opens November 19th with an artists’ reception First Friday, December 5th from 6-9 p.m. The exhibition continues through December 20th. The reception is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Wednesday & Thursday 4 - 7 p.m. and Friday & Saturday noon to 7 p.m.
